Drives energy efficiency portal

ABB has delivered millions of drives over the past 30 years, helping process owners increase productivity, improve process control, reduce maintenance costs, and most importantly, save energy.

To help your process make these similar improvements, ABB has come up with the following questions you can ask of your process:
  • Are there pumps and fans that run for long times and/or with variable loads?
  • Are there low efficiency motors in use?
  • Check motor plate values, do you have motors that are too large or too small for the process?
  • What load variations does the process have?
  • What position are your flow control devices (valves, throttles, dampers) operating in for most of the time?
To learn more about how you can save energy in all of your processes, please contact your nearest ABB office or ABB drives channel partner and read the ABB drives and motors for improving energy efficiency (Brochure, pdf, 1,68 MB).

    • Energy saved with ABB drives

The installed base of ABB drives saved about 220 TWh in 2009, equivalent with the electricity consumption of more than 54 million households in the EU-27. If that 220 TWh would have been generated by fossil fuel powered electricity plants, ABB drives reduced CO2 emissions in 2009 by about 180 million tonnes, corresponding with the yearly emission of more than 45 million cars.
